USF defeats WCC Opponent #66 St.Mary's 6-1





(Moraga, Calif.) - After a slow start to the season, the USF men's tennis team captured its first victory of the spring Wednesday - a 6-1 victory over host Saint Mary's in Moraga. With the victory San Francisco improves t o 1-5 overall and 1-1 against West Coast Conference foes.

The Dons got off to a fast start, taking two-of-three from the Gaels. Tommy Tu and Asaf Cohen captured an 8-1 victory at the top spot, while Einar Hart and Rainer Nachbauer posted an 8-2 win at No. 3.

In singles play, San Francisco continued to roll, falling only at the No. 5 position. Jacob Hartwig earned a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 to highlight the singles action. Tu at No. 1, Cohen at No. 2, Karill Karchmit at No. 3 and Nachbauer at No. 4 all earned victories in their respective matches.

San Francisco will hit the courts again Saturday, Feb. 21 when they host UC Davis at the Cal Club.
