
USF defeats rival Santa Clara 6-1

(San Francisco,CA) - San Francisco men's tennis earned its second straight victory over a West Coast Conference opponent Wednesday as the Dons dropped Santa Clara 6-1 at the Olympic Club. The Dons improve to 4-2 against league foes and 6-10 overall.
USF grabbed five of six singles points, including taking the No. 1, 5 and 6 positions in straight sets. No. 103 Tommy Tu continued his strong senior campaign, taking down Jay Wong 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. At the No. 5 spot, Jacob Hartwig earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Charlie Burke, while at No. 6 Michael Carreno downed John Iwanski 6-2, 6-1. Rainer Nachbauer earned a point for the Dons at No. 2, coming back from an early deficit to defeat Kyle Dandan 0-6, 6-3, 6-1. Mitch Del Rosario rounded out singles victories for the Green and Gold with a 6-3. 0-6, 7-6 (3) victory at No. 4 over Tommy Hicks.
In doubles action, the Dons earned the point thanks to victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Einar Hart and Nachbauer joined forces at No. 2 to take an 8-4 victory over Dandan and Hicks, while Tu and Hartwig downed Burke and Iwanski, 8-1 at No. 3.
San Francisco will take the courts again Saturday as they host UCSC at the Cal Club. The match will mark Senior Day for the Dons and will begin at 1 p.m.
