Stanford, Calif. - In the final tune-up heading into this weekend's West Coast Conference Championships, the USF men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 8 Stanford Wednesday in Stanford, Calif. With the loss, the Dons fall to 7-11.
The Cardinal jumped out to an early lead in doubles action, sweeping all three points. The Dons duos' of Tommy Tu and Asaf Cohen, the 87th ranked doubles team in the nation, and Mitch Del Rosario and Torin Ching each feel 8-1, at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. At No. 3, Einar Hart and Rainer Nachbauer fell 8-3 to Stanford's Clayton and Burch.
Stanford continued its winning ways in singles action, winning all seven sets in straight sets. At No. 5, Del Rosario fell to No. 119 Greg Hirshman 6-0, 6-1 before Tu dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to No. 52 Bradley Klahn. The Cardinal sealed the victory at No. 6, as Karill Karchmit of the Dons fell 6-2, 6-1 to Jeff Zeller. Jacob Hartwig, Nachbauer and Hart each fell, as well, as their respective spots.
The Dons will kick off the 2009 West Coast Conference Championship Friday in San Diego. Seedings and pairings for the tournament will be announced Thursday.
