


Men's Tennis Ends Season With Third Place Finish

(San Diego, Calif.) - USF men's tennis secured a third place West Coast Conference finish Sunday with a 4-2 victory over Portland at the WCC Championships in San Diego. The victory marked the sixth time in program history the Dons finished third in the league.The Dons have finished 3rd most recently in 2003,2006,and 2009.
The Dons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after doubles, taking the No. 2 and 3 spots. Mitch Del Rosario and Torin Ching posted an 8-2 win over Kurdadze and Kincaid at No. 2 to put USF up early. Einar Hart and Rainer Nachbauer then secured the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Hernandez and Wales at No. 3.
In singles action, Portland threatened, taking the first point, but the Dons held strong to capture third place in the league. Out of the gates, the Pilots captured at win at No. 6, before San Francisco won at No. 4, 1, and 5 for the win. Tied 1-1, Hart grabbed a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Hernandez to give USF a 2-1 edge. Tommy Tu captured a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1, bumping the Dons to 3-1, before Portland grabbed the No. 2 point, bringing the score to 3-2. USF nabbed third place in the league at the No. 5 spot as Jacob Hartwig defeated Thorp, 6-2, 7-5 for the victory
