


Men's Tennis set to host UC Santa Cruz Saturday at the Cal Club

(San Francisco,CA) - Saturday the USF men's tennis team will host UC Santa Cruz in the Dons final home match of the 2009 spring season. The match will mark Senior Day as San Francisco honors three seniors - Tommy Tu, Mitch Del Rosario and Torin Ching. The Banana Slugs are currently eighth in Division III.
Tu leaves the USF program as one of the most noteworthy Dons in history. To date, the native of Vietnam has amassed a career record of 72-42 overall, 54-31 during the spring season. Tu has posted winning singles records in all four years of his career, including a 10-5 mark this season. Earlier this season, Tu entered the ITA Division I men's tennis singles rankings. With the ranking, Tu became the second Don from Northern California to earn a singles ranking in the past 10 years. With the two selections, San Francisco becomes the only school in the Northern California region to have two region natives earn national rankings in the past ten years. In addition, with the ranking, Tu is now just the second junior, and native, of Northern California to earn a national rank in the last five years. Tu is currenty ranked 103rd.
Del Rosario enter his final home match with a 31-42 career overall record, including a 22-28 mark during dual match play. Last season, as a junior, the Fremont, Calif. native posted a 13-7 record, including going a perfect 4-0 when playing No. 5 singles.
Ching is a three-year letterwinner for the Green and Gold with a 9-15 overall record, and a 2-1 spring record. This season Ching has teamed, primarily with Del Rosario in doubles play, playing mostly at the No. 2 position.
The Dons enter Saturday's match with a 6-10 overall record. First serve will be at the Cal Club at 1 p.m.
